The surround speakers
The surround left and right speakers provide the extra dimension
associated with cinema sound. You can see them all along the side and
back walls of real cinema auditoria.
Connecting
Connect the surround speakers to your amplifier* as shown in figure 10
opposite, using the cables that are 8 metres long.
Positioning
The requirements of surround speakers are slightly different if you are
using DigiTheatre for Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital surround sound.
•
For Dolby Pro Logic, the objective is to have the speakers creating
an open, spacious sound. This means that they shouldn’t point
towards you, so as shown in figure 11 opposite, try to position
them alongside your listening position or maybe slightly forward of
it, about two or three feet above your head, and aiming straight
across the room rather than down at you. If the surround speakers
must go behind you, then try to have them firing at each other,
towards the walls, or straight down the room.

For Dolby Digital, the objective is to have the speakers behind you,
and pointing directly at you, as shown in figure 12 opposite. This is
because Dolby Digital contains fully-encoded surround information,
whereas the Pro Logic surround information doesn’t cover the full
bandwidth range.
For viewing both formats, unless you’re prepared to shift the speakers
when changing between them, we recommend that you decide how
much priority you want to give to each format.
Die Surround Lautsprecher
Der linke und rechte Surroundlautsprecher bietet die nötige Klangfülle
für 3-dimensionalen Sound. In Kinos findet man Sie entlang der Seiten-
und Rückwände.
Anschluß
Schließen Sie die Surround Lautsprecher, wie in Abbildung 10 gezeigt,
mit den 8 Meter langen Kabeln am Verstärker* an. Die Adern der
Kabels sind rot und schwarz gefärbt und werden an die gleich gefärbten
Anschlüsse der Surround Lautsprecher, bzw. des Verstärkers
angeschlossen.
Positionierung/Aufbau
Der Aufbau von DigiTheatre unterscheidet sich leicht, ob Sie DolbyPro
Logic oder Dolby Digital hören.
•
Bei Dolby Pro Logic ist die Intention einen offenen, räumlichen
Klang zu erzeugen. Deshalb sollten die Surround Lautsprecher an
der Hörerposition angebracht sein. Die Surround Lautsprecher
sollen nicht nach vorne weisen, sondern direkt in Richtung
Hörposition, bzw. leicht davor, ungefähr 60 - 90 cm höher als die
Hörposition. Die Surroundlautsprecher sollen in den Raum strahlen
und nicht auf Sie herunter, wie in Abbildung 11 gezeigt.
Wenn die Surround Lautsprecher nur hinter der Hörposition
angebracht werden können, dann sollten sie entweder von Wand zu
Wand aufeinander zuweisen oder direkt von der Wand nach vorne
strahlen.

Bei Dolby Digital dagegen sollten die Lautsprecher hinter der
Hörpostion aufgestellt werden und direkt auf Hörhöhe auf selbige
zuweisen, wie in Abbildung 12 gezeigt, da im Gegensatz zu Dolby
Pro Logic, Dolby Digital alle Surroundinformaionen nutzt.
Sie sollten sich nun entscheiden, wenn Sie nicht jedesmal die
Lautsprecher umstellen möchten, welchem Standard Sie die höchste
Priorität geben.
* DigiTheatre’s amplifier is in the subwoofer. *Bei DigiTheatre ist der Verstärker und Subwoofer eine Einheit.
