Essential Rules for Storage
◼
Remove all entangled material.
◼
Thoroughly wash the machine with a pressure washer or water hose to remove all dirt, mud, or
debris.
◼
Run the Backhoe for a few minutes to dry the moisture inside the machine.
◼
Inspect the Backhoe for loose, damaged, or worn parts and adjust or replace them to prevent
any unnecessary downtime at the beginning of the next season.
◼
Check all safety signs. Replace if necessary.
◼
Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched to prevent rust.
◼
Clean off any dirt or dust accumulated on the Backhoe and any moving parts and protect it
against corrosion by lightly oiling it.
◼
Store in an area away from human activity.
◼
Apply an anti-rust lubricant to the hydraulic cylinder pistons. 3-in-1 or WD-40 spray oil is a good
choice.
◼
Store an unused Backhoe in a lockable indoor area, frost-free, clean, dry, non-humid, level, and
out of the reach of children and unauthorized persons.
◼
Alternatively, store the Backhoe outside covered with a tarp to reduce exposure, prevent
weather damage, and support the frame with wooden blocks.
Remove from storage beginning of the season and at the time of installation.
◼
Remove all protective covering.
◼
Check the reservoir oil at the proper level by looking at the oil gauge. When checking the oil
level, the backhoe should be extended to total reach with the bucket rolled back and resting on
the ground. All cylinders are retracted except for the boom cylinder. Do not overfill the oil; it
will be forced out of the breather cap.
◼
Change the Reservoir hydraulic oil and Filter every 200 hrs, or earlier if necessary.
◼
Fill Reservoir with SAE 10W40 engine oil with API “SF/SG” Classification in Northern climates.
◼
Fill Reservoir with SAE 40W engine oil with API “SF/SG” Classification in Southern climates. All
-
Purpose tractor hydraulic oil AW32/AW42 is another good choice.
◼
Check the gearpump transmission gearbox oil. Watch the glass gauge. If necessary fill with
about 4 oz Gear oil 85/90 W.
◼
Check hydraulic hoses for deterioration and replace them if necessary.
◼
Lubricate all grease nipples and oil handle linkages.
◼
Check hydraulic system for fluid loss and, if necessary, fill to proper level or replace it if
contaminated.
◼
Tighten all loose bolts, nuts, and set screws.
◼
Inspect bucket teeth and sharpen or replace them if necessary.
◼
Before placing the unit under full load, operate the Backhoe slowly for a short time to get used
to the controls, and also check for hydraulic leaks.
