XX090-02-00 Rev 1102 System Console
Download/Upload
The system console allows you to upload and download your configuration file and the unit's software. By
downloading the software, you may distribute the most recent copy of system console software to other
system consoles. In a similar manner, you may also download a configuration file to other system consoles.
This allows you to transfer the program settings from one system console to other system consoles, saving
time when your configurations are the same or similar. Uploading your configuration file and/or software to a
host computer provides a means of storing a copy of these files for easy retrieval in case of file corruption on
your system console.
You may obtain an update to your software by several means. Updates are often available at the Vicon
website (http://www.vicon-cctv.com). Contact Vicon Technical Support at 1-800-34-VICON (1-800-348-4266)
to find out whether you have the latest software and how to receive it. This procedure assumes you already
have the update on your PC hard drive, on a CD, diskette or other readable media.
1. Remove power from the system console and personal computer.
2. Create a 9-pin D-shell to 9-pin D-shell cable. If you are using a PC, you may need to use a 25-pin D-shell
connector instead of a 9-pin connector, depending upon the PC. If you are transferring between two
system consoles, connect RxD to TxD, TxD to RxD, RTS to CTS, CTS to RTS, and ground to ground.

3. Connect the cable to the RS-232/RS-485/AUX connector. Connect the cable to an RS-232 connector on
your PC (Com 1 for these instructions).
4. Apply power to the PC and use the Windows Start Menu to access HyperTerminal from the Accessories
program group. You may use other communications packages that provide X-Modem transfer if you like.
Note: HyperTerminal instructions were written using HyperTerminal version 595160. If you are using a later or
earlier version, refer to HyperTerminal’s help file or other documentation if necessary.
5. A dialog box will display that requests a name for this connection ("syscons", for example). Enter a name
and press OK.
6. In the next dialog box to display, choose “Direct to Com 1” from the
Connect using
field. The other fields
on this screen are not applicable for this procedure.
7. The next screen will allow you to define a baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, None for parity and None for
flow control. Vicon recommends a baud rate of 38,400 baud. You must use 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no
parity. Press OK.
8. Apply power to the system console and log in.
9. Press and hold the Shift ( ) key and then press the F5 key to display the Main Setup screen.
10. Select I/O from the Main Setup screen and then select Set RS232 from the Select I/O Function screen.
