3.2
Modifying the drive shaft to suit the
tractor
The p.t.o. stub position varies with different tractors and
for this reason it may be necessary to shorten the drive
shaft. Check the length of the shaft before first use as
follows:
Danger!
The implement should be at a stand-still
whenever maintenance, repairs or
adjustments are carried out. Stop the
engine and remove the ignition key.
Pull the drive shaft sections apart and fit them to
the p.t.o. stub ends - clutch end towards the tractor.
Place the two sections alongside each other and
check, with the implement raised or lowered, in
straight line or turning position, that there is:
an overlap (b) of at least 150 mm, and
the drive shaft has a clearance (a) of at least
20mm.
If it is necessary to shorten the shaft both sections
must be reduced equally.
Rub down the tube ends, remove any swarf and
grease the sliding surfaces.
