The “poke” function is only available for the A013 register, which is dedicated to the
control of the transceiver’s lasers. A related “peek” function allows you to determine the
status of any valid register by reading the corresponding peek value.
To turn off laser transmission for a specific lane or lanes

Select your test application, configure the test, connect your instrument to the
circuit, then turn the laser
ON
.

From the main menu, select the
Setup
soft key. A series of setup tabs appear.

On the
Interface
tab, select the
Connector
tab, then select the
MDIO
tab.

To turn lasers OFF for a specific register, under Poke, do the following:
a
In
PokeRegAddr
, enter the register address (A013).
b
In
Poke Value
, enter the bit value representing the lane for which the laser
will be turned off:

0001 indicates that the laser in the first lane should be turned off.
-
0002 indicates that the laser in the second lane should be turned off.
-
0003 indicates that the lasers in both lanes should be turned off.

Select
Poke
.
The lasers are turned off for the specified lanes.
To check the current status of a register

Select your test application, configure the test, connect your instrument to the
circuit, then turn the laser
ON
.

From the main menu, select the
Setup
soft key. A series of setup tabs appear.

On the
Interface
tab, select the
Connector
tab, then select the
MDIO
tab.

Under Peek, do the following:
a
In
PeekRegAddr
, enter the register address.
b
Select
Peek
.
The displayed Peek Value indicates the status of the register.
Restarting a test
To restart a test

Press the
Restart
soft key.
The unit clears your test results, and then the test restarts.
