As is our custom, and unlike a quartz watch, your
Vertex doesn’t rely on a battery for its energy source.
Instead, the power that drives the hands around the
dial is generated by the unwinding of a tightly coiled
flat spring meshed with a gear train of toothed wheels,
fueling the escapement.
The escapement consists of a wheel which is caught and
released intermittently by a pivoting lever – responsible
for the telltale “tick” – and is presided over by a delicate
spiral, aptly known as the hairspring.
Furthermore, the escapement is responsible for the
regulation of the energy release from the mainspring
and feeds this power back through the gear train, thus
driving the hands of the watch to count out the seconds,
minutes, and hours with military precision.
