Option 2: Auxiliary Switch
Use an Auxiliary Switch for installations where a ground (common) wire is not available. This
Auxiliary Switch allows for the installation of the thermostat without the need to pull any new wire.
The Auxiliary Switch allows the installer to use one of the existing wires for the ground wire and
then multiplex one of the outputs (W,Y,G, etc.) onto that ground wire. Note that the figure below
shows the W terminal being multiplexed, but any one of the outputs could be multiplexed.
The Auxiliary Switch consists of two components, a small jumper which is wired between terminals
at the thermostat, and a small adapter which connects inline near the HVAC equipment.
Please note that the supplied ‘jumper’ is not and cannot be replaced by a simple wire. Order the
Auxiliary Switch separately from Vantage, Part Number, STAT-AUX.
