Hardware Description

Motherboard

General
Description

The Vanguard 6435 motherboard contains 4 Mbytes FLASH and has 16 Mbytes of

SDRAM (synchronous DRAM) on an attached DIMM (expandable to 32 Mbytes of

SDRAM). The Vanguard 6455 has 32 Mbytes of SDRAM.
The motherboard has connectors for:

• FLASH expansion: 4 Mbyte SIMM
• Vanguard 6435 - SDRAM Expansion: 16 Mbyte DIMM standard, 32 Mbyte

optional. When using 8Mbyte flash, 32 Mbyte is recommended.

• Vanguard 6455- 32 Mbyte recommended
• Data Compression/Encryption SIMM
• Two DIMS
• Three Vanguard Daughtercards
• Two Enhanced Vanguard Daughtercards

There are three DIP switches:

• Two DIM DIP switches
• One Test Mode switch

There is a battery which provides power for the unit’s real time clock.
Figure 2-6 shows the location of the motherboard components.
