Helps keep the proper engine
temperature.
Warning
Adding only plain water or some other
liquid to the cooling system can be
dangerous. Plain water and other
liquids, can boil before the proper
coolant mixture will. The coolant
warning system is set for the proper
coolant mixture. With plain water or the
wrong mixture, the engine could get too
hot but you would not get the overheat
warning. The engine could catch fire and
you or others could be burned. Use a
50/ 50 mixture of clean, drinkable water
and DEX-COOL coolant.
Caution
If improper coolant mixture, inhibitors,
or additives are used in the vehicle
cooling system, the engine could
overheat and be damaged. Too much
water in the mixture can freeze and
crack engine cooling parts. Use only the
proper mixture of engine coolant for the
cooling system.

Checking Coolant
The vehicle must be on a level surface
when checking the coolant level
It is normal to see coolant moving in the
upper coolant hose return line when the
engine is running.
If the engine has been recently running
even for a short time. The coolant in the
cooling system could be very hot and under
pressure. Allow the engine to cool
completely before attempting to open the
surge tank
If coolant is visible but the coolant level is
not at or above the mark pointed to, add a
50/50 mixture of clean drinkable water and
DEX-COOL coolant.
If no coolant is visible in the coolant surge
tank, add coolant as follows:
How to Add Coolant to the Coolant
Surge Tank
Caution
This vehicle has a specific coolant fill
procedure. Failure to follow this
procedure could cause the engine to
overheat and be severely damaged.
