Design and construction
The Trango X-light² differs from its
predecessor the Trango X-light in far more
aspects than just the optics. Many of these
details are only visible at a second glance.
These are the most important design
characteristics in overview:
•
Design based on the successful
2011 UP X-alps wing,
•
Uncompromising 3-liner: less
parasitic drag due to less lines
allow for more performance and
more fun!
•
High-speed airfoil with the
renowned and almost legendary
UP safety – the Trango X-light²
remains true to the UP
philosophy and the heritage of
the predecessor,
•
Highly efficient and light speed
system, adopted from the Open
Class,
•
New Stabilo design – better
handling, easier stall behaviour
and reduced induced drag,
•
Full Race Concept - 100%
unsheathed lines.
•
ASS² - 2
nd
generation of the UP
Airfoil Stabilising System.
•
Combined Brake Tension System
(BTS) –a new way to attach the
brake lines in the center part of
the wing.
•
Space-Frame-Concept –the UP
way of saying that every little part
of the internal life of the canopy is
only subjected to tensile loads in
one direction, thus the allegory to
Space Frames. It allows us to
dimension all parts very
accurately, to the benefit of
canopy complexity and weight.
Performance data
Ever since the Trango series was first
introduced a decade ago the gliders in
the family have been defining the
Serial Class. Trangos have always
been known for uncompromising
performance coupled with very easy
extreme flight behaviour. The Trango
X-light² is no exception, mastering as it
does the balancing act between
performance and safety in the perfect
way.
As is the case for all UP wings the
performance is monitored all the way
through the design process. Our R&D
people use the combination of two
software packages, the „LT-Parafoil“
and „Paralabs“ to check every new
innovation for performance benefits
before it is released to be incorporated
in real-life designs.
