10.2 Jump start
Precautions for jump start
When jump starting the engine using
a jumper cable, spark might occur
when the jumper cable is connected.
B e s u r e t o o b s e r v e t h e f o l l o w i n g
steps.
B e s u r e t o u s e a l a r g e c a p a c i t y
jumper cable for the large vehicle.
For the correct jumper cable, ask the
n e a r e s t U D Tr u c k s a u t h o r i s e d
dealer.
•
Stop the engine of the vehicle
that is supplying the power.
•
Connect the positive end of the
j u m p e r c a b l e ( r e d ) t o t h e
p o s i t i v e ( + ) t e r m i n a l o f t h e
discharged battery and the other
end to the positive (+) terminal
of the good battery.
•
Connect the negative end of
another jumper cable (black) to
the negative (–) terminal of the
good battery and the other end
to the body frame of the vehicle
w i t h t h e d i s c h a r g e d b a t t e r y
where the position is as distant
as possible from the battery.
•
After connecting the jumper
cable, start the engine of the
v e h i c l e w i t h t h e d i s c h a r g e d
battery. If it is difficult to start the
engine in a cold region, start the
e n g i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e t h a t
supplies the battery power, and
wait for several minutes before
starting the engine of the vehicle
with the discharged battery
•
After starting the engine,
disconnect the jumper cables in
the reverse order of connection.
•
Use heavy-duty jumper cables
for large vehicles.
•
Ensure that the total voltage of
the auxiliary batteries is 24 V.
WARNING
• D o n o t p l a c e o r b r i n g t o
c o n t a c t a n y m e t a l w i t h t h e
positive (+) terminal of either
vehicles.
• Check the jumper cable for
w e a r o u t o r d a m a g e i n
insulation.
• Check the battery fluid level
before connecting the jumper
cable. If charging is performed
when the battery fluid level
l o w, t h e b a t t e r y m a y b e
d e t e r i o r a t e d , h e a t u p o r
e x p l o d e . P e r f o r m c h a r g i n g
after replenishing the fluid.
DANGER
Never do a tow start for starting
the engine. Failure to comply
can lead to accidents.
NOTE
If the battery is frozen or ice is
found on the cell, do not start the
vehicle with jumper cables.
