14. An anti-fall harness is the only body-gripping device that is
permitted for use in a fall arrester system.
15. In a fall arrester system, it is essential to verify, prior to each
use, the free space under the user on the workplace, to avoid
any risk of collision, in the case of a fall, with the ground or
with any obstacle found in its path.
16. For the safety of the user, if the equipment is sold outside
the first country of destination, the dealer should supply:
an instructions manual, instructions for maintenance, for
periodical inspections and repairs, all compiled in the
language of the country of use.
Inspection before use
(figure 3).
• Check the condition of the lanyard along its entire length
(figure 3.a):
- the wire rope should not show any signs of bending,
abrasion, corrosion or broken wires;
- the synthetic rope should not show any signs of abrasion,
fraying, burns or cuts.
• Check that the lanyard blocks when you pull sharply on its end
(figure 3.b) and that it winds and unwinds normally along its
entire length.
• Check the condition of the casing (no signs of deformation,
screws in place...).
• Check the condition and operation of the connectors: no signs
of deformation, connectors open, close and lock correctly. If
equipped with a connector on the lanyard end, the fall indicator
on the connector should not be visible: M46
(figure 3.d).
• Check the state of the harness and connector attachments
(figures 3.c - 3.e). Refer to the specific manuals for each of the
products.
• Check the complete fall arrester system.
Recommendations for use
(figure 1):
• The blocfor™ is a retractable fall arrester complying with
standard EN 360. This equipment must only be used by a
person equipped with a fall arresting harness (EN 361).
• The blocfor™ must only be used for protection of personnel
against falls when working at heights.
• The blocfor™ must be secured to a structure (by its connector)
with a strength S of at least 10 kN. The user must be connected
to the blocfor™ device by means of the D-ring on the harness
(figure 1.b) using the automatic locking connector located on
the end of the blocfor™ lanyard.
• The user must limit his movements to 20° in the vertical and
horizontal directions without moving away by more than 3 m
with respect to the vertical of the anchor point (
figures 1.c
and 1.d).
