MATERIAL CONTROL AND CHECKING
Before each use
ƒ
Read and respect all conditions given by the magnet instructions for use.
ƒ
Visually inspect all parts of magnet lifter.
ƒ
Carefully clean active poles (contact with the load) and if necessary, suppress spotting
out and flashes with a soft file. Never use the magnet lifter with faults on active poles.
ƒ
Check conditions and functioning of the lever and of the locking device.
ƒ
A unusual high effort for engaging the lever can signify a load with dimensions
(contact surface, thickness and / or steel type (stainless steel)) which are not
acceptable.
ƒ
Check correct functioning of the safety locking device after the magnet’s activation :
the safety pin device must quickly and easily return to its initial position. Check correct
functioning of its spring. Never use the magnet if there is a problem with the safety
pin.
Annual checks in accordance with LOLER 1998
ƒ
Check equipment for any deformation, fissures or other faults. If upper hooking ring
has more than 10 % wear it must be replaced.
ƒ
Check the active poles condition. If they have faults, they must be cleaned or
corrected by your supplier. Then control lifting capacity of the magnet lifter.
ƒ
Install the magnet on a load in order to verify functioning and conditions of the
working lever.
ƒ
Verify condition and functioning of the lever and of the locking device : ensure that the
safety pin device returns quickly and easily to its rest position. Check correct
functioning of its spring.
ƒ
Check presence and legibility of signalling plate.
ƒ
Test lifting capacity in accordance with Manufacturers procedure. Lifting capacity with
manufacturer procedure must exceed at least 3 times working load limit of the
magnet lifter.
ƒ
Log all tests results and findings.
