Chapter 5
Reference - Benchtop (Local) Operation
Phase Powers
The power needed to hold a motor in a fixed
position is much smaller than the power needed to
move it, and it is advantageous to reduce the power
through a stationary motor in order to reduce
heating. If incorrectly set, there is a serious risk that
the stepper motor could burn out.
< Rest Power
The power needed to hold the
motor at rest (as a % of full power).
< Move Power The power needed to move the
motor (as a % of full power).
By default, the unit is set to 80% Move Power and
20% Rest Power, as required by the ZST range of
actuators. If prolonged duty cycles are anticipated
then consideration should be given to reducing the
move power further.
Note. If the Move Power is set too low, this may
limit the max velocity and acceleration of the motor
before stalling occurs. It can be an iterative process
to select appropriate values for the intended
application.
