TO PREVENT
VOIDING
THE
ENGINE WARRANTY, the engine
valve clearance is to be performed by
an authorized Kubota Dealer only.
IMPORTANT
Perform the valve clearance check
while the engine is cool.
CAUTION
4.6 500 HOUR SERVICE
Every 500 operating hours, the engine
valve clearance needs to be verified and
adjusted if necessary. Always check the
valve clearance while the engine is cold.
Correct valve clearance is 0.18 ~ 0.22mm
(0.0071 ~ 0.0087in).
To adjust the valve clearance:
1
Remove the 4 nuts and washers retain-
ing the valve cover to the engine cylin-
der head and remove the cover. (fig.
C2100)
NOTE:
The crankshaft pairs pistons # 1
and # 4, and pistons # 2 and # 3 to rise
and fall at the same time. The camshaft
valve timing though, has the cylinder
pairs on different cycles of operation.
Example
: If both pistons on # 1 and # 4
were at top dead center (TDC), one of
the cylinders would be on the compres-
sion stroke (both valves closed) the
other cylinder would be starting the
intake stroke. (Intake valve starting to
open).
2
Turn the engine over until the intake
valve is just starting to open on number
1 (one) cylinder. (Cylinder closest to
radiator) This valve action means that
cylinder number 4 (next to flywheel) is
on the compression stroke, with both
valves closed. This is the proper point
to check and / or adjust the intake and
exhaust valves on cylinder number 4.

4.5 300 HOUR SERVICE
Perform a complete 150 hour service
plus the following.
4.5A Fuel Filter
.
Change the engine fuel filter after the
first 50 hours and every 300 hours there-
after. Use only Thomas approved filters
only.
1.
Shut off the fuel line petcock located at
the fuel tank (S0063). Turn clock wise
to close.
2.
Use a filter wrench and remove the
fuel filter.
3.
Lubricate the new fuel filters’ gasket
with clean light oil. Do not use grease.
4.
Turn on until gasket contacts the
adapter base. Hand tighten an addition-
al 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
5.
Open the fuel line shut off at the fuel
tank (S0063).
6.
Open the air bleed screw on the fuel
filter housing (S0069).
7.
Close the bleed screw when fuel
begins to trickle out.
8.
Open the air bleed screw on the engine
(S0071).
9.
Start the engine and operate for two to
three minutes before closing the air
bleed screw.
10. If the engine fails to continue to oper-
ate, repeat the air bleed procedures
steps 5 ~ 9.
