Initial startup of the Barnstead ULTROpure will require
the following customer-supplied items to set optimum op-
erating parameters:
pH meter or pH test kit.
Test kit for determining residual chlorine.
Refer to your water analysis printout and locate the rec-
ommended recovery rate for your unit. You will need to
set the ULTROpure valving for this specific recovery. If
you cannot find this analysis, DO NOT PROCEED FUR-
THER. Refer to “Precautions Before Installation” in the
Installation section of this manual.
Set the ULTROpure recovery as follows:
A. Open the reject valve 3 full turns from the
closed position . This valve is located on the
top of the prefilter and is accessed by opening
the door in the front of the ULTROpure.
B. Open the customer supplied feedwater supply
shutoff valve. Check for leaks and correct, if
necessary.
C. Install the Storage Interlock Jumper plug, sup-
plied in the ULTROpure plumbing hardware
package, into the Storage Interlock on the
right side of the ULTROpure.
D. Connect the power cord to the power entry
module on the right hand side of the unit and
to an appropriate power supply.
E. Press the “Power” button on the ULTROpure
control panel.
F. After the high pressure pump has started,
adjust the recycle valve until the membrane
pressure gauge is reading 150 psig.
G. Check for leaks and correct if necessary.
Operation
Caution
Never restrict the flow of product water
from the ULTROpure. Restricting prod-
uct will destroy the membrane.
Note
Be sure that both Reject and Product
lines are routed to drain.
Note
Each time the “Power” button is
pushed, built-in time delays allow the
feedwater to fill the system prior to
starting the high pressure pump.
Ignore the digital display readings on
the % Rejection Monitor as you per-
form the preceding step (Step E).
Descriptions and explanations of the
meter display start on page 20. It is
not necessary to understand the moni-
tor display at this time.
