Maintenance and Cleaning
The ARL EQUINOX 5000/5500 X-Ray diffractometer is designed to require only minimal
maintenance operations. However, several preventive maintenance tasks should be
performed regularly to keep an optimal working state of your instrument. Please refer to
Appendix 3: Periodic Preventive Maintenance on page
to find the reminder of the periodic
preventive maintenance operations. Furthermore, the cooling fluid and the detector gas
cylinder must be replaced periodically.
8.1 X-ray Tube Maintenance
Please, refer to the tube documentation to learn more about tube maintenance operations.
The most common maintenance operations on X-ray tube are water flow issues and sudden
X-ray source failure.
With time X-ray tube intensity will decrease, this is a normal wear. To keep maximum
performance, it is advised to change X-ray tube periodically from 3 to 5 years.
In case of a water flow issue, the X-ray tube is the only part in the X-ray diffractometer to be
equipped with a water filter.
In case of sudden X-ray source failure, proceed to a conditioning procedure. This procedure is
clearly described in the X-ray tube documentation.
SERVICE!
If the X-Ray tube is dismounted, the X-ray beam will have to be aligned. Operation of
cleaning a tube filter and replacement of X-ray tube should be performed by Thermo
Fisher Scientific service engineers only or by personnel certified by Thermo Fisher
Scientific.
