Installation Procedures
2.1.4.1 Installation
Follow these steps to install a PCI card in the RES-22DCX system:
1. Make sure that the 2RU-high PCI Riser Card is firmly inserted into Slot 6 of
the motherboard (see
Figure 2-6 ), and that both cable connectors are installed
in their respective slots (2 and 3).
2. Before any PCI card can be removed or installed, the PCI-card retainer brack-
et must be removed. Loosen the Phillips screw holding this retainer (see
A ,
Figure 2-9 on page 2-12) and remove the retainer.
3. Locate the lowest PCI Riser Card slot within which a PCI card will be in-
stalled, then remove all PCI cards that are installed above it. If the slot is emp-
ty, remove the Phillips screw holding the blank I/O Panel.
4. Install the new PCI card in the lowest available slot (see B , Figure 2-9 ), se-
curing its I/O faceplate with the Phillips screw removed in Step 3.
5. Continue installing PCI cards above the card installed in Step 4 until all cards
have been installed (see
C , Figure 2-9 ).
6. Replace the PCI-card retainer bracket and secure it with the Phillips-head
screw previously removed (see
D , Figure 2-9 ).
7. Attach any internal I/O cables to the installed PCI cards.
8. Carefully fold and tuck any exposed ribbon cables into the chassis.
Caution: The middle slot of the PCI Riser Card contains a card-locking lever that
pivots (counter-clockwise) to lock the PCI- Express card into place. Since some PCI
card edges are fragile, firmly seat the card and be careful when locking it in place.
Note: If a long PCI card is being installed in the top slot of the PCI Riser Card,
make sure that the card retainers have been installed to hold both (opposite) edges
of the PCI card (see
Figure 2-8 ). Card retainers rigidly hold the PCI card to pre-
vent damage during a sudden shock to the system.
If you are installing a long PCI card in the top slot of the PCI Riser Card and re-
tainers have not been installed on your RES-22DCX, call Themis Customer Ser-
vice for instructions.
