Motiv 5
Connection: Stereo sources
Connecting the Motiv 5 to stereo sources
Stereo soundcard, notebook, MP3 player, satellite
receiver, TV set, game console, CD player, DJ mixer,
Discman, Walkman, etc…
The Motiv 5 can be used universally. The set can be
operated successfully with any of the above appli
-
ances. And not just in stereo, but also with virtual
surround sound, using the integrated “upmix” func
-
tion that involves all six of the Motiv 5 speakers.
This admittedly doesn’t sound as perfect as Dolby
Digital, but does sound better than pure stereo re
-
production.
Here is how it works:
Connect the stereo output of your appliance to
the front left/right inputs on the rear connec
-
tor panel of the subwoofer. It is possible to use a
3.5mm mini-jack to stereo cinch adapter. All five
satellite boxes are connected to the subwoofer
via the speaker cable. The subwoofer now pro
-
duces a mixed signal for all speakers. With this
type of connection, the four satellites reproduce
a stereo signal and the centre and the subwoofer
reproduce a mono signal.
Please note
No other plugs should be in
the other sockets on the Motiv
5-Subwoofers (in Centre, Sub-
woofer, Rear R/L)!

Notebook/laptop
For 5.1 reproduction you usually
need an external sound card
with six analogue outputs. Dif-
ferent companies offer solutions
for connection to the PCMCIA
port or via USB or FireWire. If
your notebook already has three
analogue mini-jack outputs,
please proceed as described in
the section “Connecting to a 5.1
sound card”.
