While using the cutting function, occlusion may occur. Occlusion is when the Aspiration flow
channel of the TX MicroTip become blocked by tissue or debris. In this case, the system
responds with an audible indicator (Tone), which is a series of (3) repeating "beeps".
e. CUTTING FUNCTION
The CUTTING POWER Panel provides access to the parameter settings for the Cutting
function. Controlled by depressing the Foot Pedal, CUTTING POWER sends an ultrasonic
power signal to the TX MicroTip, which converts it into mechanical vibration, thereby emulsifying
soft tissue at the target site. When CUTTING POWER is selected to LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH,
IRRIGATION will automatically be selected ON. Depressing the Foot Pedal will open the
irrigation pinch valve to allow fluid to flow, and turn ON the TX MicroTip at 100% Power. When
the Foot Pedal is released, the TX MicroTip will turn OFF and fluid will stop flowing.
For LOW and MEDIUM CUTTING POWER settings, the console provides power delivery
according to a software-controlled duty cycle. When LOW is selected, the CUTTING POWER
is delivered in cycles at 50 milliseconds ON and 50 milliseconds OFF. When MEDIUM is selected,
the CUTTING POWER is delivered at 75 milliseconds ON and 25 milliseconds OFF. For the
HIGH CUTTING POWER setting, cutting power is delivered continuously; therefore a
user-controlled duty cycle is required to ensure adequate cooling of the TX MicroTip. A
user-controlled duty cycle of 15 seconds ON, 45 seconds OFF (15s/45s) is to be followed when
using HIGH CUTTING POWER. This is equal to a ratio of 1:3 of FOOT PEDAL ON time to
FOOT PEDAL OFF time with a maximum of 15 seconds of continuous FOOT PEDAL ON time.
CAUTION:
Maximum tip temperature can approach 47 degree C. This does not present a
hazard to the patient if the TX System is used according to the recommended duty cycle: 15
seconds on, 45 seconds off on HIGH cutting power.
The CUTTING POWER function can never be used independently, only together with IRRIGATION,
or with IRRIGATION and ASPIRATION.
