As mentions in the specifications, there is a difference between the active 
and the effective resolution of almost every sensor. Some pixels towards 

the borders of the sensor will be used only to calibrate the sensor values. 

These pixels are totally darkened. The amount of dark current in these 
areas is used to adjust the 

offset

.
