3-31     ENGINE

 

 

• Apply molybdenum oil solution to the valve stems.

 

CAUTION

 

When inserting each valve, take care not to dam-
age the lip of the stem seal.

 

• Install the valve springs with the smaller pitch facing 

the cylinder head.

 

• Install the valve spring retainer , press down the spring 

using  the  valve  lifter  and  then  install  the cotter  halves 
onto the valve stem end. Then, release the valve lifter to 
allow  the  cotter

to  wedge  between  the  retainer  and 

the valve stem. Be sure that the rounded lip 

of the 

cotter fits snugly into the groove

in the stem end.
