CHASSIS 5-8

BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT

• Loosen the brake pad mounting bolt
• Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts

• Remove the brake pad mounting bolt
• Remove the brake pads

A CAUTION

* Do not operate the brake lever during or after brake

pad removal.

* Replace the brake pads as a set, otherwise braking

performance will be adversely affected.

• Install the new brake pads and brake pad mounting bolt.
• Tighten the brake caliper mounting bolts

and brake

pad mounting bolt

to the specified torque.

Brake caliper mounting bolt: 39 N-m

(3.9 kg-m, 28.0 Ib-ft)

Brake pad mounting bolt: 18 N-m

(1.8 kg-m, 13.0 Ib-ft)

NOTE:

After replacing the brake pads, pump with the brake lever a
few times to operate the brake correctly and then check the
brake fluid level.

BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT

• Place the motorcycle on a level surface and keep the

handlebars straight.

• Remove the master cylinder reservoir cap

and dia-

phragm

• Suck up the old brake fluid as much as possible.
• Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid.

Specification and Classification: DOT

• Connect a cleaner hose to the air bleeder valve

and insert the free end of hose into a receptacle.

• Loosen the air bleeder valve and pump the brake lever until

the old brake fluid is completely out of the brake system.

• Close the air bleeder valve and disconnect the clear

hose. Fill the reservoir with new brake fluid to the upper
end of the inspection window.

A CAUTION

Bleed air from the brake system. (See p. 2-13.)
