Install the Glass Media
WARNING
• Turn OFF all gas and electricity to the appliance before installing the embers, and logs.
• Do NOT install the logs until the appliance has been completely installed, the gas line connected and
tested for leaks, and the initial burner operation has been confirmed.
• Use of an unapproved log set in the fireplace will void the warranty and will result in incomplete
combustion, sooting, and poor flame quality.
• Logs get very hot and remain hot for up to one hour after the gas supply is turned OFF. Handle the logs
only when cool.
• This appliance is not designed to burn wood. Any attempt to do so could cause irreparable damage to
appliance and prove hazardous.
• If the logs are not installed according to these instructions, improper combustion could occur. This could
result in the excessive production of soot and/or the colorless, odorless, toxic gas carbon monoxide (CO).
NOTE
:
It is important to ensure proper log placement per the manual when installing these units. Verify pilot
flame is not obstructed. See Verifying Appliance Operation on
Pages 45-46
.
Installing the DRL2000/DRL3500 Series Glass Media
Proper glass media placement is critical to prevent sooting and performance. IMPORTANT NOTE: Not remove sticker until media is
completely placed. Verify pilot flame is not obstructed and the 1/2” clearance from pilot cover to burner is maintained. Ensure media
does not fall inside the area between the pilot cover and burner. (
Figure 48, Page 59
). See Verifying Appliance Operation on
Page 45
.
NOTE: 55” models use a maximum of 7.5 lbs of glass media, 45” models use 5 lbs and 3.5 lbs on 35” models.
IMPORTANT!
•
Do NOT mound up media.
•
If using multiple colors of media, NEVER apply more than one layer behind and on top of burner and no more than two layers
in front of burner.
•
If media is not installed according to the media installation instructions, flame impingement and improper combustion could
occur and result in soot and/or excessive production of carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless, odorless, toxic gas.
1. Do not remove the sticker until glass media has been installed
(
Figure 45A
)
.
2. Place one single layer of glass behind burner on perforated material
(

)
.

CAUTION
Do not place more than one layer of glass on rear sections as it will affect performance.
Example: Sooting and flames leaning toward rear of unit.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not pour media directly from bag as small particles can and will clog burner ports causing
performance problems. A sifter is suggested to separate these smaller particles.
