Quick Tips
1.
Inspect location -
Know dock shape, dimensions and lift position before starting. In-
spect for any objects including pilings, bumpers, or structure that may interfere with
SwiftShield
™ arms. Also inspect for overhead clearance if moorage is covered.
Compare to
SwiftShield A
™
spec sheet.
2.
Side Rail installation -
Inboard vs. Outboard. The Side Rails are frequently installed
outboard of the legs on a
SunLift
™ SL6, providing clearance for boat guides but often
requiring the lift to be shifted away from the dock, creating a larger gap between boat
and dock. Side Rails can be installed inboard of the legs on a SL6 if the roller is cus-
tom trimmed, but limits the boat beam and requires precise guide position. Side Rails
on
SunLift
™ SL8, SL10, and SL12 are typically mounted inboard of legs unless beam
is greater than 9’
-
6” (and guides are installed).
3.
Lift clearance
- Installing a
SwiftShield
™ on a lift with legs located under the dock,
or installations with Side Rails mounted outboard of legs requires the lift to be shifted
away from the dock. This creates a larger gap between the boat and dock for board-
ing.
Sunstream
®
offers boarding step accessory SS-ST1 to ease boat access.
4.
Bow clearance -
Docks with an angle gusset at the forward end of the boat will inter-
fere with the forward position of the
SwiftShield
™
Arm. The forward position of the
Arm can be restricted to avoid contact with the dock gusset.
5. Bow Sprit alternatives
Guide Ropes can be attached to fixed points on the dock in installations with fixed
docks located close to the boat bow.
Guide Ropes can be anchored to the lakebed in shallow water installations.
4.
SunLift
™ level is important
-
The
SunLift
™ cross beams must be level. The height
of the ends of the cross beams must be within 2 inches of each other. This prevents
twisting and maintains alignment of the
SwiftShield™
arms through their range of mo-
tion.
