3.1 Powering On the System
Note – It is advisable to connect a TTY terminal to the system during
installation (refer to Section 2.6, “Connecting an ASCII Terminal” to find
instructions). Observe the yellow (middle) LED on the front panel. It should go
off when boot completes. If it remains on, observe the terminal screen for boot
messages produced by the POST diagnostic program during power-on.
1. Begin with a safety inspection of the system.
a. Ensure the key switch on the front panel is in the Standby position
(completely counterclockwise, see Figure 3-1).
b. Ensure the AC power switch on the system rear is off and the server
power cord is plugged into the server and wall socket.
Caution – Do not disconnect the power cord from the wall socket when
working on the server. This connection provides a ground path that prevents
damage from uncontrolled electrostatic discharge.
2. Turn on the TTY terminal.
3. Turn on the AC power switch on the system rear.
4. Turn the key switch on the front panel to the on position.
