P R E P A R A T I O N
— When operating correctly, lathe will run
smoothly with little or no vibration or
rubbing noise.
— Investigate and correct strange or
unusual noises or vibrations before
operating any further. Always disconnect
power before investigating or correcting
potential problems.
13.
Move spindle direction switch to OFF
position. Push STOP button to turn lathe
OFF. Then, without resetting STOP button,
try to restart spindle rotation by moving
spindle direction switch to FWD (forward)
position. Spindle should not start.
— If spindle rotation does start with STOP
button pressed in, STOP button safety
is not operating correctly. This safety
feature must operate properly before
continuing operation. Turn spindle
direction switch to OFF to stop lathe.
Then turn master power switch to OFF,
disconnect lathe from power, and call
Tech Support for help.
—If spindle rotation does not start, continue
with Step 14.
14.
Move spindle direction switch to OFF
position, reset STOP button by twisting it
clockwise, then remove end gear cover. This
activates a safety switch that should prevent
lathe from starting.
15.
Stand away from all the exposed gears
on side of headstock, and attempt to start
spindle rotation. Spindle should not start.
— If spindle rotation does start with end
gear cover removed, then safety switch
is not operating correctly. This safety
feature must operate properly before
continuing operation. Press STOP button
to turn lathe OFF, disconnect it from
power, and call Tech Support for help.
16.
Push STOP button, move spindle direction
switch to OFF position, then replace end
gear cover.
Congratulations! The test run is complete. Turn
lathe OFF and perform the following Spindle
Break-In procedure.

Start lathe by turning spindle direction
switch to FWD (forward) position (see
Figure 24).

Machine will automatically restart when
Emergency Stop switch is reset if spindle
direction switch is not in the OFF position.
To avoid injury due to unexpected spindle
startup, always turn spindle direction switch
to OFF position after stopping machine with
Emergency Stop switch.
