Cleaning the thermal head
You should clean the thermal head using the supplied thermal head cleaning kit, if
the white stripes appear on the printout.
1
Insert the cleaning kit (the ink ribbon holder loaded with the cleaning ribbon)
into the ink ribbon compartment of the printer firmly until it clicks.
(For detailed information, see “Loading an Ink Ribbon Cartridge” on page 9.)
The following message appears.
2
Press the EXEC button.
The printer starts cleaning the thermal head.
While cleaning, “Q1” which is displayed at the left bottom of the monitor is
blinking. When the head cleaning is completed, “Q1” turns lit again.
When the END mark appears
The END mark is attached at the end of the cleaning ribbon. When this mark
appears, rewind the cleaning ribbon up to its starting point, then reuse it.
To store the cleaning kit
Store a partially used cleaning kit in its original package so that dust will not
accumulate.
Note
The surface of the thermal head is scraped away while cleaning. This results in
quickening the wear of the thermal head. It is recommended that you avoid
cleaning the thermal head frequently. Be careful so that dust or finger prints will
not accumulate on the ink ribbon and paper.
Should the problem persist even if you clean the thermal head, contact your Sony
dealer.
