RSM 400
21 / 23
5.2.1
Manual Operation (MAN Mode)
After the initialization phase is completed (see chapter 5.2), the RSM 400 is ready to work. The device will be
in the preset default mode.
Check that the ‘MAN’ Mode is selected (‘MAN’ Mode button shines yellow) in the SOMAG Mount Control App
(see chapter 5.1) and use the sliders to move Roll and Pitch (yaw axis is not enabled on the RSM 400).
Under certain movement conditions (strong turbulence, harsh environmental conditions), for troubleshooting
purposes or for checking the safety area of the payload it can be necessary to control the Mount manually
with the SOMAG Mount Control App (see chapter 5.1).
5.2.2
Automatic Operation (STAB Mode)
After the initialization phase is completed (see chapter 5.2), the RSM 400 is ready for operation. The device
will be in the preset default mode.
Check that the ‘STAB’ Mode is selected (‘STAB’ Mode button shines green) in the SOMAG Mount Control App
(see chapter 5.1).
The device needs a short time period to reach the exact horizon after the initialization process. The time de-
pends on the environmental conditions and the vessel movements during the initialization process.
If the horizon of the Mount is too far away from the desired value and the standard gyro stabilization is not
fast enough to reach the desired horizon,
‘
Fast Leveling
’
will start automatically. The operator can start the
‘
Fast Leveling
’
as well by pushing the ‘Fast Leveling’ button of SOMAG Mount Control App.
•
If the RSM 400 ‘STAB’ mode fails, respectively the device starts to oscillate, you can switch
back to ‘MAN’ mode.
5.2.3
Operation with a Remote Computer
The RSM 400 can also be controlled by a remote computer using the J2 interface (see chapter 4.2.4). A de-
tailed description of the communication protocol can be handed out on demand.
5.2.4
Operation with a Navigation Management System
It is possible to have nearly all functions controlled by a Navigation Management System (e.g. Applanix POS
MV). Please follow the instructions of the system manufacturer to integrate the RSM 400 properly into the
overall system. If problems occur, contact SOMAG AG Jena or the Navigation Management System manufac-
turer.
5.2.5
Operation with an IMU
It is possible to link the Mount directly with an IMU to improve the long-term accuracy and performance of the
system. Use the AUX port of the Interface J2 cable (see chapter 4.2.4) to link the Mount with an IMU and use
the Mount Control App (see chapter 5.1) to set up the COM port properly.
5.3
Mount Communication Protocol
