• Always make sure that the blade is correctly ground
and balanced. To examine the blade balance, use a
5/8 in (16 mm) diameter steel bolt, pin or a cone
balancer. Obey the instructions included with the
balancer.
• Do not use a nail to balance the blade. The lobes of
the center hole are not centered.
• Move the blade onto an unthreaded part of the steel
bolt or pin, and hold the bolt or pin parallel to the
ground. If the blade is balanced, it stays in the
horizontal position. If one of the two ends of the
blade moves down, sharpen the heavy end until the
blade is correctly balanced.
