Seal kits or individual seals supplied by SMC are not packaged in airtight packaging.
Therefore they should be used within one year. When it is necessary to store seals for a
long period of time, they should be stored in airtight packaging as follows:
Airtight storage: sealed in a polyethylene bag, then put in a box.
2. Storage of seals
a. Seals should be stored in airtight packaging.
b. When removing one part, re-package the remaining items in the original state as
much as possible, taking care to protect them from foreign matter.
Do not store seal parts in an unpackaged state.
c. Store seal kits in low temperature and low humidity conditions, avoiding direct
sunlight.
d. Keep seal kits away from equipment generating heat, radiation or ozone.
e. To avoid deforming or damaging seals, do not stack them on top of each other or
place heavy objects on top.
f. During storage, white powder may be generated on the surface of rubber products.
This will not affect the sealing performance.
6) Replacement procedure for seals
1. Removal of seal
Please refer to “3) Disassembly” for dismantling of wiper ring, rod seal, valve seal, tube
gasket and push plate gasket.
The piston seal has a deep seal groove. Use your hand (not a screw driver) to push
from one side of the seal, and pull it out when it lifts off.
2. Grease
a. Seal kit: Apply a thin coat of grease.
b. Cylinder components
Apply grease to the individual components shown in Table 10. The amounts shown in
the table are needed for a 100 stroke cylinder.
