Cable Assembly Steps
1. Select a cable made of a material suitable for the operational environment, the correct number of
cores and cut to the required length.
2. Cut and remove the outer jacket of the cable, 3 cm from the transceiver mating end (Figure 63).
Note: Be careful not to cut the insulation on the individual wires.
3. Use a wire stripper to remove 3 mm of insulation from the wires. Do not tin the exposed wires.
4. Use the appropriate crimping tool to crimp a terminal pin onto each of the stripped wires on the
transceiver end of the cable.
5. Insert each terminal pin into its correct position in the transceiver mating connector. Push firmly to
make sure that it has gone all the way into the connector.
6. Lock the terminals in place by closing the locking tabs on either side of the connector body.

7. Apply heat shrink to cover most of the unshielded wires between the connector and the cable
sheath.
Cable management and connector strain relief must be incorporated in the
installation. SkyWave highly recommends securing the cable at regular intervals
along its length as part of the installation to prevent cable wear and eliminate
strain on the terminal connector. Damage to the terminal connector interface or
cable might result leading to hardware failure.
