7. Motor current power rating
This measurement is not performed under
energy.
A clamp-on ammeter is required to make this
measurement. The circuit cable to be
measured must pass through the middle of the clamp
ampere. The adjustment stage is set to alternating current
and the desired speed of the engine is turned off. Here, the
current output is applied in the formula below and the power
value is calculated. The power rating should be below the
nominal power.
P = V x I (Power = Voltage x Current)
Please check the rating label in order to see maximum power value of the motor. The power
measurement formula is given above.
The value you have measured may differ by up to 15% of the value on the rating label, depending
on the ambient conditions.
If a value is observed differently, it may be due to the following reasons;
1. Ambient conditions are out of standards;
The values on the rating label were made in accordance with the standards in laboratory. Out of
tolerance motor power values can be observed under different conditions.
2. Air outlet exhaust is blocked;
In a product with a blocked airway, the motor will operate at a speed above its nominal speed. In
this case, the motor noise level will increase, and the out-of-tolerance power value can be read.
3. Brake down of the motor’s propeller;
Problems such as excessive oil in the propeller can cause changes in engine speed. The volume
increases. Friction may occur due to oil and engine power may be out of tolerance.
4. Failure of engine bearings;
If there is a mechanical noise increase in the motor, a malfunction may have occurred in the motor
bearings.
5. Malfunction in motor windings;
If the motor does not run at all, there may be a fault in its windings.
6. Engine Starting Problem;
If the engine seems to rotate at a constant speed at all speeds or if the engine does not start at all,
there may be a capacitor failure.
