4: Advanced Node Board Setup
Configure memory mirroring with the Memory Branch Mode BIOS setting (refer to “Memory
Branch Mode” on page 114.
Figure 4-7 illustrates the standard DIMM population for mirroring mode.
The minimum number of DIMM supported in mirror mode is four. All four DIMMs must be
identical in size, speed, and organization.
Mirroring Mode Upgrade
To upgrade DIMM memory in mirroring mode, you must add four additional DIMMs. The
additional four must be identical to initial four, except for speed. The MCH will adjust to the
lowest-speed DIMM.
Install DIMMs
Align the DIMM so that the notch along the bottom of the DIMM module (refer to Figure 4-8 and
Figure 4-9) aligns with the notch in the DIMM slot. Insert DIMMs vertically and gently press
down on the DIMM until it snaps into place.
Note:
Refer to “Install or Remove the Air Shroud” on page 57 for a procedure on how to remove
and install the air shrouds.
An “X” in the slot number (refer to Table 4-2) indicates that a DIMM slot is populated; “----”
indicates a DIMM slot is not populated. Both fully buffered 667 MHz and 800 MHz DIMMs are
supported, however, you need to use memory modules of the same speed and of the same type.
Interleaved memory is supported only when pairs of DIMMs are installed in both Bank 1 and
Bank 2.
