12.1 Firmware update
SIMATIC PN/CAN LINK
152
Operating Instructions, 03/2022, A5E39895388-AC
3.
Update the PN/CAN LINK firmware with the TIA Portal as follows:
–
Open the "Online access" folder in the project tree.
–
Select your network interface that has access to the PN/CAN LINK network and click on
"Update reachable nodes".
Tip:
To use all options for the firmware update, assign a unique PROFINET device name
and a unique IP address to the PN/CAN LINK. If the PN/CAN LINK is not displayed, check the
PROFINET device name and/or the IP address.
–
In the project tree, open the "Online & diagnostics" option of the desired PN/CAN LINK
and select the "Firmware update" group in the "Functions" folder.
–
Click the "Browse" button to select the path to the firmware update files in the
"Firmware update" area.
–
Select the appropriate firmware file. The table in the firmware update area lists all
modules for which an update is possible with the selected firmware file.
–
In the section "For modules with:", you can see the devices (article number) and the
versions that are accepted by this firmware.
–
Click the "Run update" button.
–
Once the update is complete, you must wait until the firmware is activated. The device
is ready to use at that time.
4.
Download the project to the S7 CPU. Once the download is complete, continue with the
next step.
Note
Because the PN/CAN LINK has not been assigned a PROFINET device name or an IP
address, some errors will occur in the S7 CPU after downloading the project because the
S7 CPU cannot reach the devices. The project download may take a bit longer because the
device cannot be found.
5.
In the "Online access" folder, assign the PROFINET device name and the IP address that you
have configured in the project.
6.
For operation, set the S7 CPU back to "RUN".
CAUTION
Critical plant state
The Ethernet switch integrated in the PN/CAN LINK is only operational once the PN/CAN LINK
starts up. Restarting the PN/CAN LINK interrupts the Ethernet switch function.
Existing Ethernet connections via the switch are thus interrupted for the duration of the
PN/CAN LINK startup. This can result in critical plant states.
