Model PIM-3 13-7
13.3 Using a Single Transducer with Multiple
PIM-3’s
It is possible to connect more than one PIM-3 instru-
ment to a single transducer in order to allow each instru-
ment to digitize the data over a different range. The
transducer is driven by the excitation voltage of a single
instrument, and the output of the transducer is connected
in parallel to the signal inputs of all of the instruments.
For example, a single 500 pound load cell could have
two PIM-3’s connected to it. One instrument could be set
up with its full scale as 500 pounds, and the second could
be set up with its full scale at 100 pounds. When the load
is less than 100 pounds the second instrument’s output
would offer greater resolution than the first instrument’s
output.
If this load cell’s output is 5.000mV/V at full scale, the
first instrument would be calibrated with the
W7
register
set at 5.000 and the
W5
register set at 500. The second
instrument would be calibrated with the
W7
register set at
1.000 and the
W5
register set at 100.
