 Write Echo Setting

SYNOPSIS

  - Turns echo off

W21

  - Turns echo on

DESCRIPTION

The 

W2

 command toggles the echo function on or off.  If the first character in

the 

information field

 is a 

1

, the echo function is turned on.  Every character

sent to the PIM-3 will be retransmitted out.

If the first character in the 

information field

 is a 

0

, the echo function is turned

off. This is the default setting when the instrument is shipped from the fac-
tory.

The PIM-3 will not send a response after this command has been processed.
If incorrect information is given, the PIM-3 will respond with “

COMMAND

ERROR

.”

To temporarily set the echo setting to “off” use the DEFAULT pin as
described in Chapter 4, “Mounting and Wiring.”

EXAMPLE

#00W31

The above command, when followed by a carriage return, will turn on the
echo for the instrument addressed as "00".

WHEN TO USE IT

If the PIM-3 is connected to a dumb terminal or to a printer, the echo function
will ease manual typing of commands.  The echo feature is also useful when
it is required to connect multiple PIM-3 units to a single RS-232 port.  See
Chapter 7, “RS-232 Installation Notes” for more information.
