(Dis-)Assembling the rear wheel
Open the brake caliper as described above. Please refer to the same infor-
mation at the front brake (page 28). Loose the hub bolts and push the
wheel forward. To loosen the bolts use an allen-wrench size 5. Take of the
belt from the sprocket without bending or twisting it and thread it over
the drop-out (fig.7). Mind the provided instruction manual of the Gates
Carbon Drive™ belts. Now you can remove the wheel. If necessary, bend
the fender carefully backwards.
Assembling works in reverse order:
1. Insert the rear wheel and move it forward.
2. Slightly tighten the hub bolts to the point where the cog wheel of tigh-
tening cone is meshing with the cog rail (fig. 9).
3. Put the belt over both sprockets and slightly pull the wheel backward to
pretension the belt (fig. 8 ).
4. Turn the tightening cone with a 17mm wrench to elevate the belt
tension (fig. 6).
5. Fasten the rear wheel by hand-tightening the hub bolts (fig. 6).
6. Carry out these operations on both sides to straighten out the wheel
(turn the wrench anti-clockwise on the left side to increase belt tension
and clockwise on the right side to decrease belt tension) .
7. Check the belt tension. It is suggested to use the Gates tension tester.
Alternatively press with a proof load of 20 -45N (89 – 200 lb) on the top
of the belt in the middle between both sprockets. The deflection should
be 10mm +/- 1mm (fig 10).
8. If the deflection is not according to the requirements, loosen the bolts
and adjust the belt tension again. Make sure that the rear wheel is
centered between the chain stays.
9. Tighten the M6 hub bolts with torque according to the chart.
Make sure to carry out each of these steps with the
utmost care and diligence. If you are not completely
sure as to the quality of your own work, please do not
hesitate to contact your specialized Schindelhauer dealer.
