SILIOS D SAFETY SWITCH
USER INSTRUCTIONS
Intended use
The Santon Silios D safety switch has been especially developed as an additional disconnecting device for
smaller (DC) photovoltaic installations. The DC disconnect switch is made to withstand a continuous flow of up
to 32A at a string voltage of up to 1000VDC. This depends on which type of Silios D you’ve ordered. Because
of its compact and installer-friendly design it is specifically suitable for smaller domestic installation. But due
to its technical reliability and robust design it can just as well be used as an additional disconnector for string
inverters in larger installations. Since it is IP65-rated, the Silios D may be installed anywhere in the DC part of
the photovoltaic installation inside and outside, but it is preferably placed in an easily accessible location near
the inverter.
PV string inverter
String cables join in the inverter which inverts the
solar panels DC current into an AC current suitable
for the external power grid.
Silios D safety switch
Can disconnect the DC string cable entry into the
inverter, hereby cutting it off from the continuous
power flow of the solar panels. Therefore it
should be placed as close as possible to the solar
panels. Combined with its padlock possibilities this
creates a safe situation for the installer to perform
maintenance.

Operation
After testing and commissioning of the installation the DC disconnector can be used to shut off the supply of
the solar panels to the PV inverter, hereby shutting down the inverter DC input so that it no longer delivers AC
current on its output and making sure there is no load on any cable in the installation below the Silios D safety
switch. This creates a safe situation for an installer to perform maintenance on the installation.
In the OFF position the knob and the enclosure form padlock possibilities. This allows you to lock the isolator in
the OFF position by means of a padlock (with a hasp diameter of max. 6mm) in three seperate locations. The
enclosure also has two possibilites for the placement of seals to ensure that the installation will not be tampered
with by unauthorized personnel.
Furthermore, it is advised to switch the DC disconnector at least two times per year. This to ensure the full
functionality of the Silios D safety switch over 10 years.
