6.9.2. Checking the tautness of the chain of the chain drive of the scarifier and rollers.
The power of the drive shaft of the scarifier and the rollers is transferred using a chain to the axles of
the rollers. Permanent tautness of the chain is ensured by the tightener which is adjusted using
the tightening bolt N (Pict 25). Properly tightened chain should give by about 5 mm when the end of
the tightener K is depressed.
Pict 25. Adjustment of the tautness of the chain drive chain (view with guard removed) of the crop rollers.
6.9.3. Everyday maintenance
The following should be done after everyday operations:
•
check all visible parts and components and their connections, tighten all loosened nuts or
screws and replace all worn or damaged parts,
•
wash the mower with water under pressure after every use, especially between the cutting
bar and discs, because dried mud with grass can cause premature wearing out of the bearings
in the disc assembly or block proper rotation of the assembly,
•
clean any remaining plant matter, dirt or mud,
•
check the condition of the cutting unit,
•
lubricate the telescoping shafts of the articulated telescoping shaft with STP grease,
•
if needed lubricate according to lubricating instructions (Section 7).
6.9.4. End of season maintenance
After the end of mowing season the mower should be carefully cleaned and washed and after drying
all working surfaces and suspension pins should be protected from rust by lubricating with grease.
Additionally:
•
Touch up any chips in the paint.
•
Check the oil level in the angle drives and the cutting bar (Section 7). If leaks are discovered
they should be repaired immediately and lost oil replaced. If water in oil is discovered
immediately change the oil as it could cause corrosion of internal mechanisms such as gear
wheels, bearings, or shafts, and in effect be the cause of breakdowns.
•
Periodically inspect the mower and lubricate moving parts in order to protect them from
corrosion which effects proper operation of the mower.
•
Check hydraulic hoses regularly. Replace any damaged or old hoses. The period of
hydraulic hose utilization should not exceed 5 years from the date of their manufacture
printed on the hose.
