- The type of power and the connection to the network must agree
with the information on the data plate.
- Make sure three-phase motors with a motor are equipped with a
protection circuit-breaker providing fuse protection against any
overload of the motor. The motor protection circuit-breaker should
be adequate for the nominal motor current marked on the data
plate.
- The motor has a PTC connection for a thermistor tripping device
(max. voltage 7.5V DC).
- The connection to the network must be in accordance with the
connection plan (
see Fig. 3
).
- The connection conduit should be protected from the heat and
vibrations of the motor and pump.
Do not forget to connect the earthing terminal
5.3 Operation with frequency controller
- It is possible to adjust the pump rotation speed using a frequency
controller. The range of adjustment is between 40 and 100% of
nominal speed.
- Follow the installation and starting instructions for the frequency
controller to connect and commission it.
- To avoid any risk of an overload of the motor winding that might
cause damage and unpleasant noise, the controller cannot pro-
duce rates of voltage rise in excess of 500V/µs or voltage peaks >
650V.
- To attain such rates of voltage rise, install an LC filter (motor filter)
between the frequency controller and the motor. The manufactu-
rer of the frequency controller/filter should take charge of prepa-
ring the plan of this filter.
6. STARTING UP
6.1 Filling - degassing
The pump can only run dry for a maximum of 15
minutes. Dry running may make the motor surface
hot enough to entail a risk of burns.
If the pump has operated dry, it should be allowed to cool before
being refilled with water by the air evacuation process.
- Close the two guard valves and give one and an half to two turns
of the air bleed screw.
- Slowly open the guard valve on the suction side until air escapes at
the air bleed screw and the pumped liquid flows. The escaping air
produces a clearly audible whistle. Retighten the air bleed screw.
- Slowly open the guard valve on the discharge side. The gauge on
the discharge side is used to monitor the pressure.
When the pumped liquid is hot and the pressure
high, the stream escaping at the air bleed screw
may cause burns or other injuries. For this reason, the air bleed screw
should only be loosened a turn and a half.
6.2 Check of direction of rotation
A check light on the top of the junction box (
see figure 1, item 9
)
lights when the direction of rotation is correct; if it fails to light, there is
any operating voltage, or else the direction of rotation is wrong. In
the latter case, interchange two line power phase leads.
6.3 First starting up
- If the liquid pumped is drinking water, the system must be thorough-
ly cleaned to keep dirt out of the drinking water piping.
Under some pump or installation operating condi-
tions (temperature of pumped liquid, volume flow),
the whole pump, including the motor, may become very hot. There is
a real risk of burns just from touching the pump
.
7. SERVICING
No special servicing in operation. Always keep the pump perfectly
clean.
It is best not to empty the pump for a prolonged shutdown if there is
no risk of frost.
If the place of installation is not protected from frost, the pumps and
pipes must be emptied for the winter.
- Close the guard valves, open the discharge screws at the base of
the pump (
see Fig. 1, item 6
) and the air bleed screw (
see Fig. 1,
item 10
). You must absolutely close the guard valves before ope-
ning the screws.
