OPERATION
REPLACEMENT PARTS
READ complete manual CAREFULLY
BEFORE attempting operation.
Always refer to Equipment Safety Guidelines & Before Operation sections of this manual before operating this mixer.
•
Your 3500 series mixer was designed for blending dairy and beef rations. Most commonly used ingredients, including
limited amounts of dry stem hay, can be mixed quickly and uniformly in this mixer. If you have questions regarding your
feed ration or have other applications, please contact Sioux Automation Center, Inc.
•
Mixing performance can vary greatly according to the differences in materials, loading sequence, mixing speed, and
unloading methods.
GENERAL
•
When the mixer is in operation it has many moving parts which could cause severe injury or death to persons coming in
contact with these parts. To help avoid serious accidents, please read and understand this manual.
SAFETy
•
Keep in mind the overall size of the mixer to allow clearance through doorways.
•
Do not force hay, into auger(s) with loading device. The area over the auger(s) do not have bucket guards, avoid bucket
contact with the auger(s) to prevent potential damage to knives and auger(s).
LIMITATIONS
•
When deciding when and how fast to operate the mixer, factors such as ingredients being used, the thoroughness of
the mix, and the time available to mix must be considered. Normal mixing speed is 3/4 to full PTO speed.
•
Do not exceed rated PTO speed. When the mixer is operated faster than rated PTO speed the strain on the drive train and
mixer is greatly increased.
MIXING SPEED
HAy RESTRICTOR SETTINGS
Do not adjust the hay restrictors while the mixer is running. Moving feed inside the mixer can make the hay restrictor move
suddenly causing injury to person making the adjustment.
The mixer is equipped with two adjustable hay restrictors, one
is located at the left front and the other at the right rear of the
mixer. The purpose of the hay restrictor is to provide better
control of the processing and mixing of long stem forages into
the ration. The hay restrictors on the Maxi-mixer can be set in
five different positions, zero “neutral”, one, two, three, and four
(high). The operator will need to experiment with the different
setting on each hay restrictor in order to achieve the hay cut
length and mix desired. The starting position should be “one”
for each hay restrictor, and adjust each hay restrictor one hole
at a time. It is not required for both hay restrictors be set at
the same position.
The further each hay restrictor is engaged the more aggressive
the knives will cut, and the shorter the stem lengths will be. Be
aware that the more the hay restrictors are engaged the more
horsepower will be required to process & mix the load. This
will also increase wear on all contact surfaces.
Having the hay restrictors set to zero (neutral) can be used if the
ration does not include significant amounts of long stem hay,
or if the mixer has adequate “boiling” or product movement.
The hay restrictors set to zero can help reduce hay spillage and
allowing the feed to travel freely through the box.
