Before you begin, you must choose a S
ONDE
that will match the same frequency as the R
ECEIVER
. You will
need a S
ONDE
with a frequency of 815 Hz or 8 kHz to use with the 8879 Receiver.
The key to S
ONDE
locating success is practice and patience. Before going out on your first locate, it is a
good idea to take your R
ECEIVER
and S
ONDE
out and try locating the S
ONDE
and calculating the depth.

You will also need to attach a push rod to the S
ONDE
. This can be accomplished by using the coupling on
the end of the S
ONDE
. We recommend using a spring coupling to allow the S
ONDE
to move easier. Or, if you
are needing to attach the S
ONDE
to a sewer snake or an auger, it is recommended you use duct tape and
apply as the shown in the figure below. If taping the S
ONDE
on a metal pushing device, it is recommended
to place the battery side of the S
ONDE
closest to the device. This will allow for the best performance. Wrap
the snake for approximately 1 foot (30.5 cm) in the location where the S
ONDE
is going to be attached. Also
attaching the S
ONDE
18 inches (46 cm) behind the cutting head is recommended. First, wrap the S
ONDE
in
the duct tape and then attach the S
ONDE
to the snake using the duct tape.
