Sidetone
The audio sidetone signal provided from the analog and VoIP port of the radio can be
routed back to the GB4000V internal loudspeaker and/or connected headset.
Via the GB4000V web interface, a sidetone output selection is available. It is possible
to select, if the sidetone should be provided only on the headphones or only on the
loudspeaker or on both outputs.
Headphone only:
Sidetone headset = On
Sidetone speaker = Off
Loudspeaker only:
Sidetone headset = Off
Sidetone speaker = On
Headphone and loudspeaker:
Sidetone headset = On
Sidetone speaker = On
Further it is possible to disable any sidetone output:
Sidetone headset = Off
Sidetone speaker = Off
The sidetone can be taken from the GB4000V RX input port (remote) or from the local
microphone port (local), front or rear. In case of VoIP it is configurable, if the sidetone
is remote or local. In case of analog audio the sidetone is always remote. The
configuration is done via the
parameter “Sidetone source” on the web interface of the
GB4000V.
While in VoIP mode, the GB4000V provides the
“local sidetone” only in case of a
received Tx PTT_On signaling from the radio.
In case of the “remote sidetone” in the S4200 transceiver the parameter “true sidetone”
must be set to enabled.
In case of the “local sidetone” in the S4200 transceiver the
parameter “true sidetone” must be set to disabled because of interfering signals. In
case of S4400 the sidetone is put on the RX audio port as long as PTT is pressed.
The level of the sidetone remote is configurable
(configuration parameter “Sidetone
level) between 0 dB and -12 dB relative to the setting of the volume control
potentiometers on the front panel. This setting is applicable for VoIP operation mode,
only, due to missing PTT_On signaling from the transmitter in analog operation mode.
The level of the sidetone local is configurable between 0 dB to -12 dB relative to the
received RX signal level.
All settings apply equally to both headset connectors in case of variant 03 (VAR03) of
the audio unit.
