12.4 Accessing the Console Interface of the Connected Device
When the console port of a remote device is connected to the U-router NGW you can access the
console port on remote device in multiple ways.
For the following paragraphs, consider the configuration below:
The enterprise router is under power control using a remote power switch and the console port is
connected to the RS232 port on the U-router NGW. The administrator can access the console port
of the attached enterprise router in multiple ways:
1.
Using the Web GUI,
>_ Terminal
tab
2.
SSH login with a user that connects straight through to the console port
3.
From the command line prompt using:
ngw-term.sh
command
4.
From the command line prompt using:
minicom
command
For all of the above scenarios you need to have login access, i.e. a username and password, to
connect the U-router NGW from the Administrator terminal.
12.4.1
Console Access from the >_Terminal tab in the Web GUI
When you are logged into the Web UI of the U-router NGW, clicking on the
>_ Terminal
tab in the
menu will take you straight to the connected console port. Upon clicking the tab, the screen presents
you with a little menu which shows the available commands. The commands can be executed by
pressing <CTRL>\ followed by a single character.
Escape usage: <ESC> character is <CTRL>\ or 0x1c
<ESC>. -> Disconnect
<ESC>~ -> Send tilde
<ESC>b -> Send break
<ESC>h -> Show Help
<ESC>t -> Toggle internal relay (ID #0)
The commands enable the administrator to execute a number of functions whilst staying connected
to the console port on the enterprise router. For example; to toggle the internal relay of the U-router
NGW you would press:
<CTRL>\
followed by
t
. In the configuration above this would reboot the
enterprise router.
