12.2 Connecting a USB Console Port for Cisco devices
You can configure and manage remote devices using the USB Type-B console port. Connect your U-
router NGW to the device by using a mini-USB cable that has a Standard-A USB connector on one
end and a Mini-USB Type-B (5-pin) connector on the other end.
To connect the remote device to the console by using the Mini-USB Type-B console port do the
following:
•
Connect the Standard-A connector of the mini-USB cable to the USB-B port on the back of
the U-router NGW.
•
Connect the Mini-USB Type-B (5-pin) connector of the mini-USB cable to the Mini-USB Type-
B console port (labeled CON) on the remote device.
In the example below the USB console port of a Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch is connected to the USB-
B port of the U-router using an USB cable.
Figure 18: USB console port connected to the USB-B port of the U-router NGW
When the USB-B port of the U-router NGW is connected you will have to set the communication
parameters of the U-router NGW on the
Settings
page of the WEB UI. The console port of the
remote device is then accessible through the WEB UI of the U-router NGW.
In order to communicate over the USB-B port to a Cisco connected device do the following:
•
Set the
Terminal Interface
to
/dev/ttyCisco
•
Set the
Terminal Speed
to
9600
•
Set
USB Power
to
power on
The parameter
Console Mode
is not active in this configuration.
