LEAKAGE TEST PROCEDURES
Feb 25/11

4 - 9
GENERAL
The Aero Compact’s main buoyancy chamber will be tested for leaks.
All test results should be
recorded on the Aero Compact Test Record Chart (See Table A).
INFLATABLE CHAMBERS (AIR HOLDING TEST)
1.
Using an inflation tool (Part No. 41128-101) and clean, dry shop air, inflate the buoyancy chamber
to until the pressure relief valve (PRV) opens. The PRV will open at 3.0 psig MAX and produce
bubbles when covered with soapy water. Using a manometer, record the pressure (psig) upon
PRV release.
2.
Let stand for 15min. This will allow the chamber to stabilize. Air will stop releasing from the PRV
and bubbles should disappear.
3.
Correct pressure using clean shop air to a test pressure of 2.000 +/- 0.050 psig. Using a
manometer (See Fig. 1), check the pressure in the chamber. Record the initial tube pressure
(Pi
tube
), temperature (Ti), time, and barometric pressure (Pi
amb
). Leave sitting for at least four (4)
hours, but no more than 24 hours.
6.
Check the buoyancy chamber after this test interval. Record the final tube pressure (Pf
tube
),
temperature (T
f
), time, and barometric pressure (Pf
amb
) (See Table A). Calculate the corrected
pressure (P
corrected
) if temperature and/or barometric pressure changes during the test interval.
(See Table A for formula and Table B)
7.
The raft has passed if the corrected pressure (P
corrected
) is not less than:
Test Time
Interval
P
corrected
not less than
4
1.92 psi (.132 bar)
6
1.88 psi (.130 bar)
12
1.75 psi (.121 bar)
18
1.63 psi (.112 bar)
24
1.50 psi (.103 bar)
8.
If raft does not pass test at a test interval less than 24 hours, retest or continue test for the full
24 hour time interval. Raft is only considered FAILED if it cannot pass test at the 24 hour time
interval.
9.
If raft fails test, refer to Table C for fault isolation and Chapter 7 – Repair.
