32-Character Hex String
The first option is to enter a 32-character (exactly 32 characters) hex string which
will be used as the encoding keyword. An example of this is shown below:
KEYPHRASE A849B93C8C8A9D0E9032F5DAD76A9F68 <enter>
ASCII String
The second option is to use an ASCII keyphrase of any length which will then be
run through a Hash algorithm for encryption. The security key phrase is case
sensitive, so “
Harris
” and “
HARRIS
” are two different keys.
The security key phrase may be from 2 to 16 characters long. The longer the
phrase, the more secure it is and the less likely anyone could guess what it is. It is
up to the user to select and set this phrase. If the
RF-7800W
is not used in a
system where security and privacy are a concern, then it is OK to leave the factory-
set phrase.
If it is important that the
RF-7800W
transmissions and system be secure, Raveon
suggest you program the KEYPHRASE to be a random sequence of letters and
numbers at least 8 digits long.
When you program your own security key phrase into your
RF-7800W
transponders, write it down in a secure place. This parameter cannot be read out
of the
RF-7800W
. If you forget what it is set to, you will have to reset all the
security key phrases in all of your
RF-7800W
transponders.
Use the KEYPHRASE command to set the key phrase. For example, to set the
key phrase to Jkl53hhp type:
KEYPHRASE Jkl53hhp <enter>
7.5. Device Addressing
ID Addressing Basics
ID addressing is used to differentiate one RF-7800W Transponder from another.
Each must have a unique number programmed into them, so that when a position
report is received, the
RF-7800W
that sent the message can be identified. This is
called the MYID of the unit that sent the message.
Each
RF-7800W
has a MYID programmed into it, and is represented as a 4 digit
decimal number.
RF-7800W
IDs may be any number between 0001 and FFFF
[[[9999]]]. The Unit Address is programmed with the
MYID xxxx
command, and
the ID of the destination modem it sends its messages to (the Destination Address)
is configured with the
ATDT xxxx
command.
The factory default
MYID
in all
RF-7800W
modem is 0001, and 0001 is also the
default for the Destination ID also. The ID of your particular
RF-7800W
may have
