Compression tests are often done to determine the condition of the motor’s internal components. If the
motor isn’t running as well as it should, the test may indicate that components are beginning to wear
out. Unusual reading is a good indication that the motor may be required to be placed out of the
operational cycle for depot level service.
Preparation
Bring the motor up to operating temperature and secure.
Disconnect the fuel source.
Remove the lock plate lanyard and stow.
Remove the spark plug from the cylinder to be test IAW
the procedures contained in this section.
Performing the Test
Attach the compression test adapter into the cylinder to be tested and connect the compression
gauge to the opposite end of the hose.
Continually pull the recoil starter over until the needle on the compression gauge does not move
to complete the test.
The needle on the gauge should indicate >155 PSI.
