Binding/Arming
Throttle trim buttons
Binding
The Staggerwing comes bound to the
transmitter. Should you need to re-bind,
follow these steps.
•
Turn on both transmitter and aircraft
•
Press both throttle trim buttons
simultaneously
•
The transmitter will beep until binding
is completed automatically
•
Rudder and elevator will move briefly
•
Beeping will stop, binding complete
Arming
When the transmitter and airplane are
powered on, the aircraft binds automatically
and the tail surfaces move briefly. After that
all functions are active including throttle.
Prop Replacement
OFF
Grasp the motor shaft just behind the
prop and spinner. A pair of thin needle
nose pliers or a straight hemostat work
well for this. Rotate the prop in the
direction of normal rotation to remove.
Reverse the process to install the new
prop. A small drop of foam glue will
attach the foam spinner to the prop
hub.
First Flight
9
Perform a preflight check to see that the controls are moving in the correct direction. The ideal
flying site needs to be about the size of a ball field and without obstacles. Face the model with
its nose pointing into the prevailing wind. Smoothly advance the throttle and allow the aircraft
to take off after a short roll. Raise the landing gear and flaps. Gently pull back on the elevator
stick to climb and initiate a coordinated turn to keep the aircraft within easy visual distance.
Full throttle is not required and for learning purposes a throttle setting of 1/2 to 2/3 throttle
is best. The Staggerwing must be flown with coordinated control of both rudder and ailerons
when making a turn. Ailerons alone will not be sufficient for smooth turns. The Staggerwing has
enough power to perform loops. The roll rate is fairly slow, making rolls difficult. When ready for
landing, lower the gear and flaps and make your approach with the nose of the airplane pointed
into the wind. Reduce the throttle to descend maintaining a small amount of power until
touchdown.
